ST-MOE News Outreach Programme Webinar: Understanding the importance of news and current affairs
Topic:
Understanding the importance of news and current affairs
Synopsis: With so many developments, how can students keep up with news and current affairs, and why should developments from far away matter to a student in Singapore? In this webinar, China correspondent, Aw Cheng Wei will share his insights in covering stories from Beijing for The Straits Times and explain why young people in Singapore should pay attention to them.
Speaker: Aw Cheng Wei reports for The Straits Times from Beijing, where he has been based since May 2021. He is interested in watching how China's economy develops, and trends in its financial and technology sectors. His favourite hobby is people-watching, which is why he spends most of his free time in hutong cafes, on WeChat and chasing serial dramas on streaming platforms iQiyi, Youku and Tencent. Before his move to ST's China bureau, he was at the broadsheet's business desk and covered Singapore's growing fintech scene, including the emergence of its first digital-only banks.
