Why Basque Country, Spain?

This Business Mission (BM) will help Singapore companies gain insights on Basque's capabilities and explore business partnerships with Basque companies, especially in:  

  1. Advanced manufacturing - Automotive/components, Industry 4.0.
  2. Offshore Wind - In conjunction with a visit to the Wind Europe Annual Event trade fair.

Business Mission Fee

S$3,231 (SBF member), S$3,731 (non-SBF member) per participant (inclusive of company visits, scheduled ground transport, official meals). 

Estimated cost per participant, after Enterprise Singapore grant subsidy reimbursement for Singaporeans or Singapore PRs, is S$1,600 - S$1,900 (SBF member), S$2,100 - S$2,400 (non-SBF member).

All airfare, accommodation in Spain & tradefair pass, personal expenditures are not included. These expenses shall be borne by participants. 

Payment

Full payment of the Business Mission fee of S$3,231 (+ GST) or S$3,731 (+ GST) must be received by SBF upon successful registration. A maximum of 20 participants will be accepted into the programme.

 

Indicative Programme

  Day 1 (18 March 2024, Monday)
Morning

Visit to Basque Trade & Investment

  • MOU signing between BasqueTrade & EnterpriseSG
  • Learning journey for Singapore companies conducted by Invest in Basque
  • Meet with BIND4.0, Basque Open Innovation platform for I4.0 solutions
  • Potential sharing by Singapore company that is already present in the Basque Country, to share their experience doing business in the region
Afternoon
  • Visit to Bilbao City Council to understand how Singapore SMEs could plug into urban redevelopment project opportunities, such as the Zorrotzaurre and Punta Zorrotza urban transformation projects.
  • Visit to B Accelerator Tower to learn about services and programs available for startups, corporates, and industry clusters; and how BAT could support Singapore startups to do business with the Basque Country and Spain/Europe [potential B2B session].
  Day 2 (19 March 2024, Tuesday)
Morning
  • Transfer to San Sebastian
  • Visit to Technalia, a benchmark European research and technological development centre, to understand how Singapore SMEs could leverage its capabilities in areas such as smart manufacturing, health and food, digital transformation, urban ecosystem, energy transition, circular economy, and sustainable mobility.
  • Visit to AFM - Advanced Manufacturing Technologies: The Basque & Spanish Association of Manufacturers of Machine Tools for Industry 4.0.
Afternoon
  • Transfer back to Bilbao
  • Visit to the Zamudio Technology Park to understand the network of Basque technology parks, the innovation initiatives and the private companies established in the park and its network.
  • Visit to the Aeronautics Advanced Manufacturing Center (CFAA): This Center is built as a mixed research center within the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU) and a consortium of companies. The aim is to work towards final applications and to generate new know-how in advanced manufacturing technologies. 
 

Day 3 (20 March 2024, Wednesday)

SPLIT 1 - Advanced Manufacturing (Automotive)

Morning
  • Visit to BasqueVolt, an European pioneering company in solid-state lithium batteries. BasqueVolt's technology makes possible the mass deployment of electric transportation, stationary energy storage, and advanced portable devices.
Afternoon
  • Visit to the Automotive Intelligence Center (AIC), the European center that offers services to improve the capability and capacity of the automotive sector globally, increasing integrated training, R&D and new business under the same structure.

SPLIT 2 - Sustainable Energy/Offshore Wind [Wind Europe Annual Event]

Event Background

 Annual wind conference and exhibition, covering

  • All aspects of onshore and offshore turbine technology and operations
  • How wind can dry and support the electrification of the wider energy system
  • How companies could accelerate scale-ups, and automate both manufacturing and operations
  • How companies could better understand and prevent fatigue and faults in larger turbines

  • BlueFloat (Madrid-based) is developing offshore wind projects in various parts of the world
  • IberBlue (Madrid-based) is a joint venture specialised in the design, development, and management of floating offshore wind farms that will operate in the Iberian market
  • Repsol (Madrid-based), a Spanish multinational energy and petrochemical company
  • Acciona (Madrid-based), a Spanish conglomerate that develops sustainable infrastructure solutions
  • Seatrium, a Singapore marine and offshore company
  • Sheffield Energies, a Singapore-owned one-stop HR solution and training provider for the Offshore Wind (OSW) industry

  • Meet with Iberdrola PERSEO, Iberdrola's startup programme which aims to facilitate the group's access to the technologies of the future while fostering the development of a global ecosystem of startups in the electricity sector with a focus on sustainability.
